Live Scan is a digital fingerprinting technology that captures, stores and transmits fingerprint images electronically. It's more efficient and accurate than traditional ink-and-paper prints, and fingerprint data is transmitted to the relevant authorities right away for faster background checks.
Ink fingerprinting
Ink-on-card fingerprinting is also available.
Why do some people need ink fingerprinting?
Ink fingerprint cards (also called hard cards) are still required in a number of situations where an electronic Live Scan isn't accepted, such as:
- Out-of-state or federal applications, including many licenses and some employment checks.
- FBI identity history summary requests (a personal record check).
- Immigration, visa, or foreign-country requirements, which often ask for a rolled ink card.
- Adoption and some professional licensing or background-check submissions.
If you're not sure which one you need, ask the agency or employer that requested your fingerprints. Call us at (310) 276-5076 or come in for pricing, and we'll help you figure it out.
